About My Story

Hi! I’m A’morie Brown, a filmmaker from Winston Salem, North Carolina, and a film student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where I focus on directing and producing.

Growing up in my area where majority of people didn’t look like me nor represents my personality, I spent much of my childhood struggling with confidence, self acceptance, and feeling like I truly belonged. During some of my loneliest moments film became an escape for me. Movies were more than entertainment. They were a source of comfort, understanding, and possibility. They introduced me to worlds beyond my own and gave me characters whose journeys helped me make sense of my own experiences. In many ways film became my best friend, and it remains one of the most transformative forces in my life.

As a filmmaker, I am passionate about centering voices and experiences that are often overlooked, particularly those of POC and queer communities. I am fascinated by the ways people navigate the expectations placed on them and how those expectations shape their sense of self. Many of my projects explore these themes regardless of genre. Filmmaking is an act of service for me. Film gave me comfort and companionship when I needed it most, and I hope my work can do the same for others. Whether someone leaves one of my films feeling understood, laughing, challenged, inspired, or simply a little less alone, I believe that storytelling has done its job. My goal is to continue creating work that connects people, sparks conversation, and contributes something meaningful to the world.

I’m inspired by Pather Panchali (1955), A Little Princess (1995), Pariah (2011), and Cinderella(1997), Earth To Echo(2014), films that have shaped my love for emotional storytelling.

My Mission as A Filmmaker

I believe great storytelling begins with understanding people. As a filmmaker I am committed to continuously learning from different cultures, communities, and lived experiences, both through travel and meaningful human connections that I make. The more perspectives I encounter the more thoughtfully I can approach the stories I tell and the world around me. My work takes time and I don’t plan to ever rush my vision or understanding of a project.

I value collaboration, empathy, and trust. I believe the strongest creative work comes from environments where people feel respected, supported, and encouraged to contribute their ideas. My goal is to lead with both compassion and clarity while creating spaces where artists can do their best work together.

Through storytelling I hope to foster understanding and build connections across different experiences. Create work that contributes something meaningful to not just my life, but the ones influenced by my art.
